When Work Isn’t Enough

Vincent was already working.

As a transport aide at St. Joseph’s Hospital, he was doing everything right—showing up, putting in the hours, and building toward something better.

But like so many individuals, he was still facing both housing and financial instability.

Without stable housing—and without savings to fall back on—the path forward becomes fragile. One unexpected expense, one disruption, and everything can be at risk.

For Vincent, going backward wasn’t an option.
Returning home to the reservation would have meant fewer opportunities to grow, to save, and to build the kind of future he knew was possible for himself.

He needed a way to move forward.

A Foundation to Build On

That’s where St. Joseph the Worker’s Workforce Villages program came in.

Through Workforce Villages, Vincent gained more than just a place to stay. He gained the structure, support, and knowledge needed to truly get ahead.

While continuing his night shifts at the hospital, Vincent began building new habits during the day—learning how to manage his income, plan for the future, and take control of his finances.

Learning to Get Ahead

One of the biggest turning points came through our Personal Finance 101 class, where Vincent learned practical tools he still uses today—including the 50/30/20 budgeting model.

For the first time, saving wasn’t just an idea.
It became a plan.

And that plan turned into real progress.

By the end of the program, Vincent had saved over $7,000.

Turning Progress Into Stability

But the impact didn’t stop there.

When Vincent moved into his own apartment, he was given one month rent-free—an opportunity he didn’t waste. Instead, he used that time to continue saving, applying everything he had learned to stay ahead and build even more financial security.

Today, Vincent has something that once felt out of reach:

A space of his own.
A routine he’s proud of.
And the confidence that comes with knowing he can sustain it.

After working through the night, he now spends his days in a place that’s his—resting, recharging, and continuing to build the life he worked so hard for.

Make More Stories Like Vincent’s Possible

That’s what stability looks like.

And it’s only possible because of support from people like you.

There are more individuals just like Vincent—working, determined, and ready to move forward—but without the stability needed to make that progress last.

Your support helps bridge that gap.

👉 Make a gift today and help more individuals turn hard work into lasting independence.

Because a job is a start.
Stability is what makes it sustainable.
